Stansted Airport, located in Essex, is the third busiest airport in London and serves as a key hub for domestic and international flights. It’s around 35 miles from central London, which can take anything between 1-2 hours depending on traffic.

To enhance the convenience of passengers and manage the traffic flow, Uber has established a designated waiting area near Stansted Airport, ensuring seamless pickups and drop-offs.

Uber Stansted Airport waiting area is located at the Welcome Break Birchanger Green Service Area, Junction 8, M11, Bishop’s Stortford CM23 5QZ. This is a designated waiting area for Uber drivers. All drivers who wish to receive ride requests from Stansted Airport will have to enter this waiting area, and they will automatically join a virtual queue.

Here are some positives and negatives about the waiting area:

• Positive: As a service station, you will have access to toilets, shops for refreshments, electric charging points for cars, and a petrol station for fuel.
• Positive: You will get 2 hours of free parking at the service station. This should be enough to get you a ride back. If you stay longer, there will be a charge of £15.
• Negative: The pick-up point from the waiting area is approximately 4 miles away and will take around 10 minutes to get there.
• Negative: If the airport rider demand is high, it might be very crowded and difficult to find parking spots.

Similar to other airports, Stansted Airport has a virtual queuing system for Uber drivers to receive ride requests. The virtual queue starts as soon as you arrive at the waiting area, and rides are offered based on a first-come, first-served basis. This is different from the way Uber processes regular rides.

Although Uber mentions the Mid Stay Car Park as another alternative, it doesn’t appear on the latest version of the Uber Driver App. Therefore, I can only assume that the virtual queue will not automatically kick-start, as it’s not marked on the app.

Uber Stansted Airport Drop Off Point

The Uber Stansted Airport drop-off point is located at the Express Set Down. When you are close to the airport, there will be signs directing you towards the Express Set Down. This option is most suitable for a quick drop-off for all riders. It is the most convenient option for passengers, with the terminal building just minutes away.

There is a charge of £7.00 to use this express drop-off point. Drop-offs need to be made within 15 minutes. If you exceed that time, the airport will charge £25.00. There will be a £20 charge for re-entering within 30 minutes of first entering the car park.

You will be eligible for a quick rematch immediately after dropping off. So don’t rush out. Use the 15 minutes to get a rematch. If rides are not offered, then drive to the Uber Stansted Airport waiting area to join the virtual queue.

Uber Stansted Airport Pick Up Point

After waiting at the Uber Stansted Airport waiting area, you will be offered rides, and when accepted, you will be directed to the pick-up point. When it comes to picking up riders at Stansted Airport, Uber has established a designated pick-up point to facilitate smooth pickups and minimize confusion.

The Uber Stansted Airport pick-up point is located in the orange section of the short-stay car park. Simply follow the signage to Short Stay Car Park – Orange. After you’ve safely parked your car, go to row G to pick up the rider.

There is a charge of £10 for the short-stay car park.
